Maintain the Efficiency and Aesthetics of Your Chimney

Chimneys endure a significant amount of stress due to extreme weather conditions, frequent heating and cooling cycles, and condensation. Cornerstone Roofing offers a specialised chimney refurbishment service to ensure that your chimney, as well as your roof, remains both attractive and functional throughout the year.

Located typically above the roofline and completely exposed to the elements, chimneys face the full force of weather changes and temperature fluctuations. Our team of highly skilled and experienced roofers at Cornerstone Roofing is equipped to strengthen your chimney stack against these conditions with a range of refurbishment options.

Replacement of an old and large Velux plus replacements of a few hanging tiles. Good communication, flexible on the timescale to link in with other contract work. The two man team 'gang' worked hard, very diligent, professional, cleaned up well afterwards and it looks very professional. I did feel the project was over priced but I needed it done, however invoiced as their estimate so it was my call to make.

Cornerstone provided a professional survey of our rather unusual shape garden room roof and came up with a quotation that seemed very reasonable for the work required which included removing 5x polycarbonate sheets on a sloping part of the roof, installing boarding and three layers of felt in their place plus re-felting a triangular flat portion of the roof to make a seamless felted roof. The gang arrived onsite ontime and worked really hard in the extreme heatwave. Plenty of tea and cold drinks supplied! The roof was completed ontime and looks very neat. I was particularly impressed with the 'above and beyond' attitude they applied to the job to make sure that it would provide good drainage in wet weather straight into the gutter. 25 year guarantee too!

I have tried to get a reliable roofing company to replace my house gutters and downpipes for several months. I finally spoke to Cornerstone Roofing a few weeks back. I can honestly say it was the best phone call I have made in several years. From start to finish Cornerstone were superb. Fantastic communication, site inspection, quote and completion of work. I very rarely write reviews because there is little exceptional to write about but Cornerstone deserves every one of the five stars I have given them on this review. They are honest, professional, competitive, give transparent advice and the work carried out was nothing short of perfect. If I ever require roofing work to be done in the future I have only one number to call and will have no hesitation in using Cornerstone as my first point of contact.

Cornerstone roofing removed a skylight, then boarded over the gap, and re boarded and felted our garage roof. I was really impressed with all the guys that did the job, they were efficient and friendly and really clean and tidy. The workmanship was really good. Would definitely recommend them! However, it did take ages to receive a quote and the admin side was not quite as efficient which was a shame but the work and roofers were great so would definitely use again. 5 stars! Thank you!

Frequently Asked Questions

What chimney services do you offer?

We carry out chimney flashing repairs (the lead detailing where the chimney meets the roof), chimney pot repairs and refurbishment, flue cleaning, and chimney lining work. Whether you’ve spotted damp around the chimney breast, smoke pulling poorly into the flue, or weather-damaged pots up top, we’ll inspect the chimney and recommend the work that’s actually needed.

Common signs include damp patches on the chimney breast inside the house, staining on upstairs ceilings near the chimney, lifted or damaged lead flashing where the chimney meets the roof, cracked or spalling brickwork, loose mortar joints, leaning or damaged chimney pots, and birds nesting in the flue. Any of these are worth booking an inspection for before they become a leak.

Yes. A failed chimney is one of the most common causes of leaks in pitched roofs. Damaged flashing, cracked mortar, or porous brickwork lets water track into the roof structure, where it can rot timbers, soak insulation and stain ceilings before you notice it from outside. The earlier a chimney issue is dealt with, the smaller the knock-on damage tends to be.

Chimney repair costs vary widely depending on what’s wrong. A localised lead flashing repair, replacing a cracked pot, relining a flue, and a full pot refurbishment are very different jobs, with very different access requirements. Rather than quote blind, we book a free visit, inspect the chimney and the area around it, and provide a written quote that reflects the actual work involved.

A pitched-roof chimney exposed to UK weather typically benefits from a visual inspection every couple of years, plus a check after any major storm. Catching small issues early (lifted flashing, perished mortar, a slipped pot) is consistently the cheapest way to keep a chimney watertight and structurally sound.

Chimney repair and refurbishment work is backed by a 10-year insurance-backed warranty on our workmanship, alongside the relevant manufacturer guarantees on materials such as flashing lead, pots and lining systems. The terms are set out in writing as part of your quote.

Yes. We carry out chimney repairs across Mid Sussex from our base in Scaynes Hill, covering Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, Cuckfield, Hurstpierpoint, Hassocks, Lindfield and the surrounding villages. Damp around a chimney breast or visibly lifted lead flashing is worth getting inspected before the damage spreads into the roof structure.
